I've always used 15w40 standard mineral oil in my BX's. I tend to buy a good quality oil though. Not the £2.99 for 5 litres motorworld special.

I've started using Comma and Millers. Both cost around 10-12quid at my local motor factors for 5 litres.

I always used to use Mobil 1 fully synthetic in my 02 Astra SRi. It cost 30quid for 4 litres!

Full synth might prove a bit runny for your old motor Tim, cant you borrow some semi synthetic?

Tim, i'd go for a good old fashioned mineral oil. The XU was designed to run on this.

Not that I'd like to recommend it ...

but here at Morrisons it is still £2.93 a gallon.

But I'll try out next time 10W50 from Total. I was that cheap at GSF that I've already forgotten the prize.

Yes, they have usually a small shelf where they also sell "Formula 1" 15W40. The same oil is sold by others often up to £5.50.
