Newly Joined, New Car - to me

Post by JackRegan »

Hello all,

Thanks to the bot for letting me join. :)

Am in the process of buying a BX 19 GTI 8V.
I'm told it's relatively famous. Awarded "Best Daily Used Car" at the 2020 Northern Nationals & attended the Centenary event in Coventry. Has been stood for a while on hardstanding.
Car's black, Reg. G820 ALB.

If anyone knows anything about the car's history I'd be interested to hear from you.

Cheers

From the pictures on that 3rd link, it looks really nice.

I hope you have had your dinner though.
Prefer it to the Lamborghini, like Signor Gandini!

Looks to be in v good condition. They all need some welding eventually though. Where did you buy it?

The owner put an ad up in the Citroen forum on FB.

It needs sills and some rot rectifying in the o/s rear door jamb, which seems to be quite common.

I'll put some pics up soon.

Had it in my workshop for a while. A cement truck had spilled cement all over it!

Crikey, When was this?

Care to elaborate, please, as it suddenly sounds like I should be walking away from this deal?

Few years ago. You'd notice if it was still an issue! (It was wet cement, not big lumps of the stuff). I think it was a bit rusty underneath, but I can't remember for sure. Then another guy bought it and has enjoyed it for a while.
It was a very tidy car once, but haven't seen it for years. I drove it to Co-op near my house, that's all I remember

It's been off the road since the back end of 2019. Was supposed to be going in for restoration Feb 2020 but never got there.

I haven't got down there yet, we simply verbally agreed a sale, but not a price. he was wanting Β£1k ono, I'm thinking much less.
Needs sills, rust sorting in o/s rear door jamb and gaiters at the very least. I expect rather more as it's been stood outside without any cover for more than four years.
