This area has been welded at some stage, all seems solid enough but rust is peering through Is this a common place for rust, I've not seen it before, and is it a structural thing ala MOT failure?
Other items I need to tackle are 1x cv joint and 2x rear arm bearings

- and it IS structural right there - so you better etc etc etc ...

As long as there`s no holes you should be ok. Personally I`d use T-cut or Faurecla rubbing compound to take the surface rust off and then polish all the door gaps to high heaven to take the tester`s eyes off the area and hopefully stop him lamping it one with a hammer.
Problem is the welding heat has discoloured the paint on the outside which is probably not just surface but will try the T cut option anyway thanks.
The whole thing looks solid so I may just whack it myself and see
