WANTED: LHM tank cap T-piece

Post by RobC »

Hi Folks
An easy want this: anyone got a spare lying about? Bonnet was shut with some force the other day and poor old t-piece shattered.
Can buy a pint of ale in return.
Cheerio :)

I cant undertand the need for a T piece (someone proove me wrong)
The bit heading towards the driver goes to no where so why have it. Some time in the past mine was snapped off and someone has fitted a small length of soft ish rubber hose to the top of the cap then to the other pipe going under the engine some where... does the job and wont snap off!

Scarp yards sometimes have them on cars in there but most break off anyway. Are any of the other Hydro Citros the same?

Agreed, I don't reckon you need the T piece unless the other bit of plastic pipe is a breather or something.

On mine the drivers' side pipe is cable tied to some other stuff, so it looks like it goes somewhere... I only noticed it doesn't after my T piece had broken and I ordered another one from the dealer for about £4  Schoolboy error!

The one that goes no where is a breather and without it you can get like i have had where the top pops off and the returned LHM from the other pipe just goes everywhere including dripping on the fan of the alternator which sprays it everywhere.

but you'll only get that much return if a component is faulty, surely?

The 'other' pipe is the los pressure return from the PAS and N/S strut, these have a union towards the front of the front subframe (behind the gear box) which is also plactic and likely to failure! The official Citroen repair is to simply replace both lines as individuals all the way back to the tank.

LHM also eats alternator bushes (i have TWO alternators to prove it!), so you deffinatley dont want it pouring over that!

Mine cost £4.50! That's silly. Silly of me to pay it anyway ;)

Doesn't the LHM tak cap itself have breather holes in it?

Why not just drill a couple of holes in the cap and push the pipes through, a couple of pieces of windscreen washer pipe 1/2" long on the ends under the cap stops then pulling out. Job done.
Cheers.
