I can't read the term "Sinclair C5" without viaualizing that Spitting Image sketch with the Juggernaut putting another sticker on his cab.
   Wasn`t that in the legendary `I like trucking` video?

Warming to the Alfa idea by the way, always liked them but never owned one (yet).

we have xantia as well as bx i like the grunt the xantia has but dont find it as comfortable as the bx and it is not as good as bx on fuel either , C5 ugly?well i quite like it and i have driven my step father in laws and while it does not have the wow factor it does have a certain something that most euro boxes dont have .
My sister in law has a sporty c4 which is fun to drive but not very comfortable so rule that one out! my last company car was a 307 estate which had the 1.4 diesel so it was like driving my old 1.7 mk1 bx fine once you got it up to speed if wifey wanted something newish i would consider that as an option.
Personally i would add a 16v to me fleet and just swop them around every so often as my milage is prerry low these days ,if i was going to treat myself i would buy the truimph stag my dad used to have according to dvla its still around so if anyone sees NPW472P let me know and i will treat you to a few pints of the black stuff!

Another Alfa worth considering.

Have you considered a BX Sport though? Just need to get one from the continent!

Or how about a BX estate? Have you ever had one?

(Sorry just think 'don't give up on the BX yet'... :D )

That is a beautiful example, but being sensible a old Alfa (a petrol one at that) is not a everyday car is it unless you like working on cars alot and have a very good relationship with the AA or the RAC!

Bx more comfortable than a Xantia? Yes for seating position, no for ride imho. Overall I personally think the Xantia is a better car, BUT its not different like the BX is, hence I dont have a Xantia here anymore.

C5 ugly? Maybe a tad unfair on my part, as the estate looks nice.

Im sorry i dont agree with this at all. The xantia we had (a lowly 1.8i lx) was far inferior on the ride and handling stakes to any of our BX's.

The xantia would pickup road imperfections the BX didnt even trasnmit to you, and the bx you could chuck into a corner an be inch sure where it would ome out whereby the xantia was always slightly more vague.

I'd be the other way around. I can find a good driving position in a BX no problem. Its an odd layout, but I think it works.

Xantia on the other hand....its like one person decided where to put the dash board, then someone totally different who they'd never met did the steering wheel position, then another did the pedals and the 4th unlucky prat designed the seats (Activa/V6's excluded....the seats in these rock!) However its in another league of refinement to a BX. If you get a well sorted BX the ride is better overall, but most BX's aren't all that well sorted no matter what their owners think and the Xantia will supply a better ride IMO.

C5....ugly as sin. But no one can deny they're awesome value now and its still a Citroen....still uses funny suspension. And I'd say the C5 rides as well as a Xantia easily, if not better. The interior is also much better laid out aswell. Just a shame the Xantia is better looking.....well maybe not the facelift!

Sorry i didn't make it clear, I think the seating position in the Xantia is lousy, one main reason I got rid as i'm 6' +. The Bx has a superb seating position as good as any modern car, but wont agree ride is better than the Xantia. :(

oops looks like i opened a can of worms here, probably what we need to do is get a well sorted bx and xantia together for everyone to try perhaps at the proposed sumer meet?
Believe me the roads here are pretty bad so both sets of spheres get a good pasting so i can speak from the rough end of motoring as opposed to motorway milage.
I am 6ft plus and can drive either without any probs but i tend to find you sit further down in a xantia and the bx with a bigger screen gives a better driving position, the only downside is my meteor has a sun roof so i do need to drive with the cover open but i dont mind that
Now has anyone found my stag yet?

Hi Mr7! Hopefully I`m not stating the bleeding obvious here but have you asked the owner`s club or tried a letter in some of the classic car magazines?
There used to be a Stag specialist round here, don`t know if they`re still going but if they are I`ll pop in and ask on the off chance.

no billy your not ! but i have joined the club and spoke to the regional co-ordinator for the east of england and he has put a few feelers out ,but it dosent hurt to expand your search!
Yes there is a specialist near you in saltney if i remember but it is now nearly 10 years since i lived in your neck of the woods so i havent looked to see if they are still around but you never know cars end up in the strangest places , my meteor started of in beckenham then went to dublin and now resides in co. down !

Didn`t realise you lived round here mate! Saltney Garage changed hands quite a while ago now, very possibly just after you moved. Paddock`s had (apparantly) moved somewhere around the Bumpers Lane area, I think near the Boots depot and the Jag and Volvo dealership.
I`ll have a route round next time I`m down that way though have to admit I`ve not heard anything of Paddocks in a long while.

In an aside that probably only I will find funny I got the sack from the Grosvenor garden centre for throwing one of the female staff in the swimming pool. Well, that and deliberately dropping boxes of posh biscuits on the floor (we got the broken ones for nowt!), smashing the foreman`s hand made work bench up (that`d had taken him 6 months to build) and chucking it on the bonfire, teaching the parrot in the pet shop to say some remarkably abusive and funny comments about said foreman, being highly abusive to the boss, weeing on the conifers, refusing to come in and meet the duke and pulling wheelies in the car park on my Honda placcy!

I could still do with a white bonnet mate if you happen to have one and indeed if you are ever down this neck of the woods please let me know. Kettle`s always on
