steering clunk

Post by sleepy0905 »

right well when I rock the steering left/right I get a clunk now I thought i had traced it and changed the track ends but it did not cure it, the hardy joint is solid and the lower balljoints have been done recently I have checked the security of the ram to the rack all tight so now I am confused :? I am hoping I dont have to change the rack I do have a couple of spare ones but that can be a pain of a job. #-o

Another possibility could be siezed struts or bottom ball joint (strut to wishbone)

i had my inner joints done for my mot in june! easy job by the look of it! (i watched my mate do it! :) )although surprised at how few factors knew what i was talking about when i asked for one! even the local cit, pug renalt breakers had no idea!

as a thought, could the knocking be bottom arm bush wear????

No, I have a rack ready to fit but I haven't changed the axials on my car. Be aware that the odd clonk is often due to the handbrake cables moving in the wire loops that lead them on their way and in the gearshift bellcrank.

Also.......the rack could be loose on the subframe and moving from side to side.

I will check the security of the rack to subframe and let you know I will also check the axial joints .
