Radiator Coolant Level Tube

Post by Brian »

Hi Folks,

There seems to be some confusion regarding this item, so below is a picture.

The outside diameter is approx 20mm, with a location collar at the top

A clone one could be made using suitable plastic tube that willl withstand the water temperature, test in a kettle of boiling water, or aluminium tube.

Note the bleed hole about 45mm from the top, and the level graduations start about 90mm from the top.

Mine's long since gone, I just make sure there's enough in there...

Does it perform any other task, other than a level gauge?

Anyways knocked myself together the perfect dipstick  now I can put a notch on it

Hi Doz,

I don't think the tube was intended for any other purpose, but after thinking a little, it can perform another function.

When the air temperature is below frezing, then see if you can remove the tube, if you can, them all's well, if you cant, then not enough anti freeze is in the coolant...
