Yes, but with a 2wd gearbox and 2wd driveshafts. Theoretically you should change the rear axle for a non-driven one too, but that's a lot of work.

TBH if the 4x4 system goes bang it's easier and cheaper to just buy another car. After all, a 4x4 converted to 2wd will still have all the drawbacks of the 4x4 system (smaller fuel tank, odd exhaust etc.) but not be a 4x4. Plus it's then modified which makes insurance expensive and a pain.

Always something that doesn't fit!

As David mentions, you'd have a hell of a time insuring it.
