Classic Insurance

Post by Tim Leech »

It seems that BXs are being accepted as classics by some, I insured the TRS through Lancaster Insurance on a small mileage policy yesterday for £104.00 bearing in mind my NCB is on another vehicle. Legal and Windscreen cover was also included and monthly D/D is offered, whcih was fortunate!

www.lancasterinsurance.co.uk, worth a go I expect?

There are some very good deals out there at the moment, I found elephant to be very competitve and capable of offering lomoted mileage and accepting modifications if needs be, saved nearly £200 compared to A Flux as wel but no longer have an agreed va;ue figure.

Cheers

I tacked mine onto the TVR's classic policy with Haggerty for the princely sum of £57! 8)

Limited to 1500 miles a year (not that it'll do it) with an agreed value of £1500 (not that its worth it!)

No idea mate. Bearing in mind the TRS is quite a few insurance groups less than the GTi, I did try the 16v with them and it was about £250. I have been driving 17 years with full NCB?

Group 12 Sad
12 eh? I just followed your link and tried the CX - they state CX saloon as '83 -89 ? what about the CXs from '75 -'83?

anyway, CXs are all 11 and up, I'd guess my CX 2400 Pallas is fairly high but the premium on Lancaster is good. I never really understand insurance but can I guess that changing from my CX to a BX19GT would be about the same premium since the groups are similar?

Aha, i've only had my licence 5years with 4yrs ncb....that might explain it, or perhaps i live in a very dodgy area......mind you, my ncb isnt being used for this car, so it should'nt make any difference?

Not sure of your age Mulley (thought you were older) but if the inference 17+5=23 is true or close then any driver under 25 is loaded for insurance purposes.

I wish i was 25 , learnt to drive later on in life as they say. Lack of money, mates who had cars, & I always made sure i lived in places where i could either walk or cycle to work or near a bus route, so didnt need a car.

Decided to get my license just before getting married as i'd moved & it was a real pain getting around without a car, so that was the impetus. So 10 lessons later & i passed :D

So i cant quite think why my quotes are quite a bit higher, strange, not even my job should affect it as i work for an insurance giant & dont do anything dangerous.....The txd only costs me about £200 a year, which isnt bad, so i would have thought with ultra low mileage that insuring a 2nd car would be of a similar price, but clearly not

I have also heard that running a second car can increase the premium of your main car too! (They ask, don't they, whether this is your only car)
Don't know why this happens but maybe because the car is more open to be stolen if it is not in use so much when you are running other cars!

For your 2nd car problem, ring up a broker for a quote, when you get the price say it is high and then ask if you are being classified as a 'bad or high risk' post code.

Well my policy is up for renewal in a couple of months... so it should go down hopefully. You are not far off your guess Tim, but I don't really want to go into specifics... I'll get depressed thinking about it
