oooh... a flight on a Dash 8. Very nice too. Great aircraft. Remarkably quiet too. If you're very lucky some of the pilots of them tend to "chuck them about a bit" so you might have an interesting flight.Aerodynamica wrote:FlyBE Bombardier power to Newquay

In the next lesson, children, we will learn how the rest of the population understand the word "lucky".DavidRutherford wrote:oooh... a flight on a Dash 8. Very nice too. Great aircraft. Don't you sodding well dare. If you buy an HA Van you keep it standard, comprende vouz? Oh, and you also sell it to me because they're ace.M wrote:And I should buy a Grey Bedford HA van and fit windows in the rear panels.Kitch wrote:The car's only special to me because its the first one I ever went in, and the one I grew up learning about....by that rule I should buy a Teal Blue Marina!![]()
Back o/t wasn't a bad price in the end and I highly agree with previous comments about private listings. The reason people have them is a) to hide schill bidding or b) to hide the fact they are traders and c) quite often (though obviously hopefully not the case with this car) because they know the item they are selling isn't anywhere near as good as they've described it. Private listings mean the feedback is invisible even if bad. People who sell on private listings know full well what they are doing which is to hide something dodgy. In the case of this car I suspect it's the reason the bidding suddenly shot up. Only yesterday I saw a Frontera potentially cheap locally on the bay but I won't be bidding on it or buying it because it was a private listing.
Aerodyamica: nice one for buying it mate, I reckon it'll be a little belter and, as others have said, get some pictures of the journey up!

Hi all, was wrong I do have time to come on here today!
Don't think they've been called Dash 8s for ages - since the Co. changed the name from DeHavilland.
These planes were at a point renowned for sudden failure of the landing gear on landing
"enjoy your flight"!
Yep a real aeroplane with propellers -oooh... a flight on a Dash 8. Very nice too. Great aircraft. Remarkably quiet too.
Right I'm sure that would be ace if I were at the helm but having it 'done' to you as a passenger - er no thanx! The weather's not too hot here this week so it's going to be a blustery flight anyway..If you're very lucky some of the pilots of them tend to "chuck them about a bit" so you might have an interesting flight.

Gonna have to trail about in the parents loft and find a photo of the HA with side windows where the panels should be and seats in the back load space. Kwolity tat it was too.cavmad wrote:Don't you sodding well dare. If you buy an HA Van you keep it standard, comprende vouz? I still remember my dad's Hillman estate thing (Husky) which looked like a sort of just-about-post-war Berlingo of it's day.
But most of all I remember his Austin 3-litre, proper car that was. I need to chase up an abandoned one I've seen about thirty miles from here.
Areodynamica: when are you collecting the BX sorry?

I've been to Davids before remember!
There must be something about the country air down there that makes the local lasses, erm, well, somewhat not at all offensive to the eye!

**I'm back**
Here's the story so far!
Night before - O the excitement but I'm up before 5am next day - will the enthusiasm still be there?

I have a look outside and there's been a smash on the main road - learner driver
- is this a bad omen?

Sweet dreams ruined by the alarm:

yep, 04:40am
What's the weather like? shite as expected..

Let's go tho

Vehicle No. 1 a First Glasgow d/decker bus (photo missing?) but here's the stop at 6am

Glasgow city centre and at the bus station for vehicle No. 2 a 2007 Vanhool coach - feel the power. Pre booked ticked to Edinburgh £4.50. got on and sat next to by far the smelliest man in the world. I heard his entire day's plan including what he was getting for lunch and where, his journey back down to Somerset later and that he was going to see 'Saw 4' etc. I chatted too but couldn't always breathe so eventually faked insanity so that he shut it (I was doing well then we hit TRAFFIC) I was about to move to a seat I could see further down until people got on and the chance was gone... (note to self - as soon as danger is detected deal with it at the first instance!)

The coach went past the airport by quite a bit so I asked the driver "wis up"? and he says the connection to the airport was on the other side of the road. So I'd have to double back a mile. Originally I'd expected the coach to stop at a stop I'd checked for near the airport and then walk the 1/2 mile with luggage but that went wrong when he kept going. Traveline had shown the drop off there but it was not true!
Next in the airport and starting to feel a bit 'morningy' so hit the coffee booths for a hit
feel better!
Skip a bit, and heres vehicle No 3: a Bombardier Dash 8, 2(3,783 kW) of Pratt and Whitney powa... I don't know which engine was Pratt and which was Whitney

A bord

Thought this picture was worth showing just for the bizarre effects the cameraphone created
note the ice building up on the prop cone tip
Island off the coast

Cornwall - you can just see some quarries

At Newquay airport - waiting for vehicle No. 4

Vehicle No 4. a small local bus

The next bus after this one arrived at Porth the next was to Truro I only managed to catch it by 2 mins then discovered it was the wrong one! should've got the following Truro bus that didn't go through every village off the A30!! as such I made the train at Truro with about a minute to spare so no pic of vehicle No5. but here's veh. No. 6!!

Get to Camborne

and after a call to John, the BX seller he says "OK I'll pick you up at the station - it'll be the oldest car in the car park"
When he said oldest car in the carpark I didn't think he meant this:
so vehicle No. 7 is an Austin, well er, 7 actually.
Arrive at his house and this is the wife's
but what's that beyond?
Tada! it wasn't a cardboard cut out after all

Deal done after having a look at all the usual bits and checking the lights etc all work and started it up - it has full service history and only one prev owner. Skip a bit and we're off, Vehicle No. 8 a 1983 BX 16TRS in mad red.

**disclaimer** these driving shots are not to be attempted
on the A30

A30 East of Exeter in the pissing (it followed me from Glasgow)

Finally reached Mr Rutherford's at about 20:00 or so after some beer shopping in Yeovil. Some
chat and sleep
This is the wall of LED lights and displays in David's house
from all his HiFi equipment and videos lol
Ever seen that film 'Pulse' ?
Next day 'review your purchase' it's there sitting with its arse end on the ground but the front still propped up
I'd missed BXs!

but it's a sure sign of a fault and Mr Rutherford jokes:

"Doseur!"
Start up

Route home
North of Bristol first stop

Faults noted: crusty bits on rear C pillar windows:

bit of bumper won't stay attached:

Traffic at Birmingham

that didn't give up until north of Manchester - I was annoyed.
The BX performed well with only 2 minor issues - noisy HP pump and a 'stuck' sounding FDV. And it seems to run a bit funny at 60mph and 3000rpm - rev counter fluctuates here.
Otherwise it's smooth and relatively nippy - clutch is light and the spheres are good (softer that Iv'e ever seen on a BX actually) the height correctors need 'done' and the water level warning sender is permanently 'on' and has been unplugged by someone....
Updates to come...
