Yea, that was a tad blog like wasn't it..

Well I have had the BX round at the garage to have a close look at the underside. I found absolutely no rust at all underneath, the sills are fine, the boot floor and rear corners are rot free and look like they've been undersealed. Sub frames both fine and the front hubs look very good indeed - all balljoints are ok. I found the ride height was too high front and rear so went to adjust the front and ended up removing the corrector, linkage and bushing as there was lots of play in it. Rebuilt the corrector and readjusted the height and the front suspension is better I think I spotted the octopus too, it looks impossible to remove. Didn't get round to lowering the rear but I have noticed a problem with the hydraulics! the accumulator holds no pressure! I notice the pressure warning light comes on if you move the height lever up. It sometimes comes on after a heavy brake. I notice the power steering still operates when the regulator bleed screw is opened and also that the warning light comes on and only moving the steering a little gets it to go off - sure I read a similar thing elsewhere on the forum so I'll look it up.

The interior is good after a vacuum. I removed the mats to see what state the carpet was in and it is unmarked! rear seats similarly unmarked and the boot carpet and side trims are all good unlike my old BX where everything was loose.

Has elec windows and central locking - all working. Auto choke appears to work well but have twice had warm restarting problems.

Red paint job is still good and not faded but the bumpers need some attention. It's also had a bump on the front near side that's damaged the bracket behind the bumper.

All in all it's reasonably good.

Welcome to the world of BX 16 petrol ownership! Just keep the throttle buried when you crank it and it should go (when warm)
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

- gotcha, in fact it did this while the front end was up on ramps and I could see no petrol in the filter before the carb. I wondered if it was caused by crappy petrol pump but found that it did start after full throttle.

It has the webber carb I think.

The tick over speed seems low to me as well but it might be caused by some fault of the FDV valve as I think it's doing funny things. The HP pump sounds like it's permanently under load and I don't always clearly hear the regulator cut out.

If I stop the engine within 30 seconds the hydraulic light comes on - compared to my CX this light comes on after 15minutes! unless you turn the steering lock to lock after the engine's off. The rear end fails the accumulator test with the engine off and releasing the bleed screw on the regulator does nothing - no sign of the long swish noise. I'll change the accumulator and hopefully it'll improve things. The LHM is clear and not dark but it looks older as it's not so much green as yellowing..

Graeme I would get a Xantia/XM accumulator sphere, same price and a direct swop but work better.

Good story Graeme and the new motor looks BXquisite! How many miles did you cover? Or did I miss that bit in the account? Must be the longest distance covered to recover a BX in the history of BXs?
No pictures of you and R'for d getting tanked and watching videos?

Well, in total the mileage for the trip (I zeroed the trip counter at the petrol station in Camborne) was 610 miles!

Image

It would've been less than 610 directly but going to Mr. R's added a bit and then the A roads between David's and Bristol can add a fair bit due to their windiness.. Just remembered, I got a wave from a woman in a dark red PSA PPL carrier - either a C8, Synergie/Ulesse or other on the A37 near Shepton Mallet. Was she a BX fanatic? maybe a case of mistaken identity..

Mr R and I only had a few cans since A. I was gubbed from lack of sleep and fatigue and B. it was a school night! (i.e. Mr.R. had work the next day)

noone's done a similar recovery? Iv'e just revealed how mad I am...

Mr. R. - you don't own loads of junk! I'd love to stay in a place like yours! and here's a quick snap of the legendary DIGIT dash for good measure
