Hi all, new guy here !

Post by tidus72 »

Just thought I would say hello to everyone. I am new to the BX scene as only owned my 1990 BX 16 TRS for a couple of months. Only bought as a cheap emergency run around, but now I am hooked !

Cheap to run and insure, fun to drive and rather unique to own as most people ask, whats that  ?

On the very rare occasion I do see another BX, and I do mean very rare, they seem to be diesel cars and not petrol like mine :?

Hello and welcome tidus72.

It's true the diesels far outnumber the petrol BXs but there are still a few around --- I've got two 19TRSs and of course the 16-valvers are petrol.

Are the BX 14,16 & 19 petrol engines the same as in some Peugeot cars ?

I suppose by definition they have approximately 1400cc, 1600cc, and 1900cc engines so the 1400 will be the smallest and it is supposed to be the easiest to work on.

Welcome.

You dont mention whereabouts you are based? Always good to know incase there are other members not too far away to meet up with, & fettle these beasts.

A fair few members on here have a petrol car in their collection, but most favour the diesel as they are very economical & long lasting whilst actually being rather nice to drive for what are quite old diesels by modern standards.

Quite a few of the engines, diesel & petrol were fitted to pugs as well, some had a slightly different set up regarding characteristics such as torque & power i believe. Most are probably interchangeable, hence why valvers get butchered by pug boys for their 205's, they only had the 8valve engine fitted by the factory. Apparenty 130bhp isnt enough for a rollerscate  they go to all the trouble of finding an extra 30bhp :x

I used to live in Gloucester, and if you need a recomendation for an independant local specialist I can recommend Chris Jacobs of CGS, just of Bristol road near the old match factory (if he is still going!)

The 19TRS has basically the same engine as the Peugeot 405,,, I almost bought a 405SRi instead of the 19TRS.

Sorry to hijack your thread with my life story...but I moved down to Gloucester from Sheffield for a job, my partner coming with me who also managed to find a job there. She was made redundant, and found a job in North Wales. I continued on in Gloucester for a couple of months (bachelor life FTW!) until it turned out there was a vacancy at the same company as my wife (Quinton Hazell) at which point I moved up, QH paying all the moving fees! 8)
I did like it in the area, although I reckon I do prefer life out in the wilds up here. I miss the scrapyards though - Is Harry Bucklands still going? Best scrappy in the world ever!!!
