Change the Anti Freeze Regular

Post by kiwi »

Learn something new everyday.

Changing the Anti Freeze caused the matrix to leak, well that much was obvious.

What I did learn today is that the longer you leave antifreeze in the engine the bigger that you can expect a whole lot of problems if you do not flush the system well. I have no idea when the TRS had its antifreeze changed last and I have had it 3 years now but never really expected her to last this long on be pressed into service for the expected cold months of winter to come.

Made t
me think though the TZS is overdue for a coolant change, fingers crossed thats not going to be problematic. Last time I chnaged the TZS coolant I had a new head gasket fitted.

It's the corrosion inhibitor in the anti freeze that depletes not the anti freeze constituent, it's there to protect the very thin aluminium used in the cylinder head, the radiator and heater matrix. Gibbo.

I get what your saying.

There was no leaks until I changed the coolant antofreeze/water mixture, then the trouble started.

Did get an explanation of chemical reaction between the differant brands of antifreeze, which kind makes sense. Just one those jobs where I wished I left well alone especially being a vehicle down at the moment and the TRS is needed to be "cough" roadworthy. Last thing I need or want now is the TZS to play up more than it already does.

I have often read that the corrosion inhibitor in antifreeze deteriorates, but the anti freeze element does remain functioning for a long time after.

That being the case, is it possible to purchase the inhibitor separately, or even use the corrosion inhibitor as used in domestic central heating systems?...

We talk about coorosion inhibiter in Antifreeze then how comes as soon as you put fresh in it finds the holes? Not very inhibiting :?
