Unipart clutch kits

Post by rutter123 » Mon Jun 22, 2015 2:53 pm

Are they any good? For a t/d couple available on ebay NOS listed as new not refurbished never used one last clutch was a LUK which presently has 60k's on it.

Maybe you could get the seller to open it up and see who made it? Only because I bought an Intermotor dizzy cap and it was manufactured by Ducellier ie OEM. If it was Motoquip you'd know it was OEM. Like others on here I prefer he Valeo or Luk ones, but another name on the box does not mean it's not an OEM inside.....

You need to see the cover to know. The difference between the crap ones and the good ones is that on the crap ones, you get less sprung fingers, they just make them wider. Units like Valeo, LUK and Sachs will have more fingers, all of them smaller. It makes the weight on the clutch (therefore the pedal) lighter and smoother the more fingers you have. I assume it costs less if you cut down the number of fingers and complexity of design.

The price doesn't seem to have a bearing on what you get, and we all know that 'genuine' is a bit of a bullshit word as the only thing Citroen have done to it is to stick it in a PSA box.

The only brands I can actually nail down and say are crap due to the above were both on Saxos. One was an ECP cheapo unit I bought nearly 10 years ago, and the other is a QH unit fitted to the Saxo I drive daily. It's so bad I've been tempted to pull it all apart and fit something else, just because of how bad it is to use. Got loads of life left in it!

On the BX, I've only ever fitted one Valeo and one LUK. The Valeo shit itself within 5000miles. The LUK is still going strong. Both have fine fingers and give a lovely pedal and smooth bite point.

Unipart was originally the OEM manufacturer and supplier of British Leyland; whether being a BL OEM makes them good or bad I could not guess.

These are borg and beck new units with 18 splines on the pressure plate, same amount as a valeo? My current unit is a QH with 18 splines but in pairs of nine as opposed to individual splines.

I once fitted a unipart one, bought it cheap from local paper, 8 months later it fell apart. Don't do it!
They think it's all over, it is now!

In the early 90,s I was solely in charge of a brand new " qiuck fit " department connected to a local Rover dealership in Lincoln 8)
The only problem was that all of the parts I used to have fit, day in day out were all Unipart parts, which turned out be absolute crap
Once I had to fit a new Unipart exhaust system on my 1978 SAAB 99 gls ARC 617 T. One of the twin front pipes had snapped off on the exhaust flange  I had to turn back at Stamford when I was on my way from Lincoln to High wycombe. because if the other flange were to have snapped I would have left all of my new exhaust system all over the A1
The Unioart exhausts used to rust like billyio.
I hope this helps.
