Don't be too disheartened anything can be fixed.
My Traveller went from this

to this

in about 18 months, and that doesn't show the majority of the rot  But I'll crack on until it's done then hopefully sell it and buy a valver :D

Well looking at your Traveller on balance mine is fairly mild, there was only one of the original spot welds holding the top plate in situ, the rot has eaten away most of the mounting area and a good 6 inches of the inner sill and lower front inner wheel arch. Yes I can repair it but I'm gonna try to do it from the top by cutting away some of the internal metal and welding it back in after, otherwise it's rear axle out and fuel tank which makes it a big and no doubt more costly job. Luckily I've managed to salvage what's left of the top plate so I have a pattern to work to. Sadly this area of rust saw the demise of many bx's.

Would love to see how you tackle it as I've never done any major repairs on a BX. At least with the Morris there's no problem getting new panels - I just need a lot of them.

How much evidence outwardly was there of the rot within.

None really it started out as a few holes in the sill, after cutting that away it revealed a very rusty inner sill and jacking point which in turn revealing the very crusty axle mounting and inner arch, the rot has all been cut out and several pieces of new steel are currently tacked onto place with a strengthening plate purchased from Chevronics, my 30yr old welder is playing up so when the new one arrives I'll get the job finished

Respect.
Its now up to us enthusiasts, or whatever we are, to keep on the road the few BXs that there are left.
