Thats savable as it is still partly attatched you can get that welded and plated dont wait till it falls off completely as most people will not touch it at all then.

does deffinatley look savable! just need to find someone to do it really! The metal in the body work behind has a number of layers all joined up so you'll need to be careful about how its welded and cleaning it all out so it doesn't happen again, but they get done in the UK with reasonable ease and good results!

Ask around for a good and trusty welder who knows about his job.
I've seen some very nasty & lumpy repairs of this common BX problem.

The last repair job I got done on my TRD is looking perfect - and the hinge is solid - no movement on the pillar while door is moved. My welder is not a Citroen specialist - simply a good craftsman.

You may help the welder by preparing the job this way :

1) unclip the headlamp on affected side
2) unbolt the blinkers lamp same side
3) refit blinker using gaffer tape - clip the headlamp back in
4) now you have access to most of the bolts/nuts holding the wing - remove all bolts/nuts. Clean & greas the bolts nuts - then refit 2 of them handtight to keep the wing located
5) pay special attention to the 2 bolts at rear of wing accessible when door is partly open. These fits into captive nuts.
6) support the door then remove door hingepins and insert screws or nails which are easy to remove at will.
7) support the bracket holding the pin for the door strap. Then tap out the pin. Insert a nail.
8 ) strip the door and unhook all electric connectors - then withdraw complete door loom with the gaiter from the door.

Now the door and wing can easily be removed using no tool.
Only a very brief explanation is needed to get back a perfect job.
This ensures that you dont get your car back with all sorts of minor damages and shortcuts which have to be repaired - like a bunch of cutted wires to the door

The main idea is of course that you try stay in control of what happens to your car !

Thanks for getting that link right Vanny!

Thanks AndersDK for the advice, Actually, it's good to know what should be done for a good job.

Will post a picture of the repair when I am able, then

I removed the door pins and hung the door on my engine crane, that way I did not need to disconnect the wiring.

Maybe this will reassure you :

That was the state of my estate's passenger door when I saved it from the breakers. I managed to fix it myself with an arc welder and 2mm steel sheet bashed into shape (I had to replace the steel from the seam down to the cable hole, and right round the corner under the wing).

I did burn a few holes, and the result was made aesthetic with a lot of mastic, but it certainly seems strong enough. It would be a good idea to squirt loads of rustproofing in the pillar afterwards, though, as there will likely be quite a bit a flaking in there.

rear door rust

Post by pindimar »

Yes, that looks even more nasty!

Actually, I have the car back from the repairers and it looks quite good! Total cost $500 Australian. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it as soon as I can.

Door now hinged

Well, picked up the car from the panel shop and it looks great. They seem to have done a really good job. $500 Australian was the damage

Thanks for the advice from the Group

Been to see it with Chris Joyce who is after a TD .....

Pretty accurate description with downside being heating fan on max or not at all, and passenger door hanging an a hinge much like Pindimar's

No doubt not a problem for someone with the equipment and knowhow to repair, but otherwise what would be a ballpark UK figure to have this job sorted? Would it be worth doing it on top of the asking price for the car of say £300ish?
