Asked a few questions (i.e. length of MOT, mileage, etc). There's an outside chance that, if nobody else fancies it on here, I might buy it, sort the diesel pump, and sell it on for profit as a working car. Is the diesel pump an easy (read: inexpensive) job on one of these?

If you can find a good inj. pump then yeah, it's very easy and cheap to do!
Infact, assuming you can get a good Bosch pump then it'll cost you a couple of beers for it to magically find it's way timed up on the engine

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

I would keep the original engine and get a pump, the 2.1 12v engine is supposed to be quite a good unit? Same as a Xm? Worth a look for £250, even if it cost you £100 or so to get it running its a lot of car for £350.

Lets not get carried away here matey, it's still a xanty! (OK, I know, I know, I'll stop now, promise), but yeah, the 2.1TD engine is a cracker, especially in an XM!

hhmm, well, er, each to their own, I just always saw the Xanty as a compromise. It's a poor BX replacement IMHO, and it looks like a miniature XM, except the XM was a better car in every way.

I did own a Xantia once, an ACTIVA, for all of about 30 seconds, and I turned a profit!

Although I must say dad's V6 was a nice machine, again though, it's the engine that made the car.

BX Tint glasses, they'd be the one's with LHM Green tint lenses then??

Weeeeel
I like both - though oddly I think the Xanty estate is nicer than the BX Estate. (may I be flogged with cherry laces and publicly called Susan for saying that) This one looks lovely - shame its a non runner.

To be honest it would be a darn site more than £250 if it was! the Xantia estate is a nice loooking car, the Bx is a bit "tacked on" but very practical none the less.

Steady guys.... the 2.1 in the Xantia uses an ECU controlled Lucas EPIC pump. Might not be as easy as just bolting another one in. The 2.1 is also a real shoe horn job in the Xantia, so there's not much room to work on it - might make the pump change awkward. I suppose you could source a mechanical pump from an XM or something, jump a supply to the stop solenoid, and dump the ECU

Im just stating its alot of car for £250 in my view. Ive always liked the xantia, even though mines cost me a fortune. There comfy spacious and a nice looking and a real bargain.

I recall a long running saga on the Frenchcarforum about a Synergie with this pump - thing had blown after a clutch change - turned out it had earthed through the ECU - which had blown just after the input plug on a zigzag track on the circuit board! - Could have been repaired with 10 minutes with some sandpaper and a soldering iron!

This one would run but was noisy and lacked power which suggests that thats what they do if the ECU has failed - so - what's wrong with it - as pumps by and large don't give much trouble.

There was also a thread on here mentioning that the 2.1's and presumably the Epic run at higher injection pressures than some (earlier?) engines.
