She is now away on her holidays with Uncle Ken, and cruised happily up the M1 the 90 miles to Wakefield without so much of a murmour at a steady 70mph.
However the NEW wheeltrim on the osf managed to make a break for freedom somewhere enroute .
How are the trims meant to attach? Are the wheel bolts meant to hold them? I tried fitting mine after final tightening of the bolts and they didn't seem at all secure.
Yes Ian they are, the older the trims get the looser they and they hav ea tendency to "Rattle" at slow speeds, weird its the new one that pinged off even though it was pushed on hard.
Ahh well, I will have to fit my metric alloys instead then!
To cure those rattly/loose hub caps, with careful application of a heat gun you can squeeze the plastic locating lug and make it a tighter fit on the wheel nut.
All I can say about this car is, it looks a lot better from underneath than it does on top
It's actually in quite good structural condition, has a bit of rust under the front end but the back end is incredibly good.
A new nearside rear wing would really do justice to the car, and mechanically she's all but MOTable.
Bet our neighbours are really sad to see it leave.
Well the first bit was right

She made it home with no issues at all, made me realise how buggered the clutch is on the 19TZD (soon to be replaced) but its quite a bit slower too (that 6bhp makes ALL the difference). I think it runs on air though as the fuel gauge hardly moved!
Anyway, the bodywork starts in ernest very soon as its rather a tatty old barge!

Glad I'm not the only one amazed by the difference of 6bhp. My Mk1 feels quite a bit more sluggish than my old Mk2, especially on steep hills. Was wondering if it was just me - apparently not!
And I'm very jealous of the positioning of your cold start advance, why does mine have to go behind the oil filler neck!!?? (But the photo has given me a clearer view of the cable routing, so thanks for that).
