You paid for the car, and you're the one putting in the work to strip it, so I don't see how anybody can realistically be miffed if you keep some spares back! Personally I'd only sell the parts that I already had one of, apart from the bulky items.

I wonder if everybody is being nice to you about it 'cos they want bits?

I'd have scrapped it long ago frankly.. I'm not that precious about BX's, it aint unique after all..

Of course, if that gearbox is peachy and Kitch wants to keep it then he should definitly be shot for breaking it!1 ;)
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Oo er that's a bit brown. Can't you make a special 16v kitchen out of it Kitch to compensate for using the kitchen fund to buy it in the first place?

You were a brave man to take it on. I think it's beyond salvation unless it was the last one left!

i feel yr pain, am currently tackling rust issues on my tzd, not quite as bad as yours but when i first got it it needed boot floor hanger area, both rear end of sills o/s in wing, n/s rear chassis, front cross member, now 5yrs down the line other areas of rust are cropping up in the usual places, i think its shocking what the mot tester cant see hidden behind splash guards, you be a brave man to tackle that lot tho personally i think a car like that with 13 pre owners i would give it a very wide birth, good luck wotever its fate.

I love BX's I really do, but the work that would take to bring it back puts it beyond economic repair really. Even if you did the work yourself you are up against teh sheet steel shortage in the South of England brought about by the restoration of 132.

Personally if it were mine I would flog the donkey and loom to the 205 boys and then break the rest, that way you might get something approaching what it owes you back.

Haha! So that's why it's all bastard expensive now!

I'm starting to put plans together on stripping the car down at the moment. I'll probably start listing items that I've decided to sell (wheels are one) in the for sale section for a while before hitting fleabay with them. If anyone needs something in particular feel free to PM me....you're not being vultures!
Just be warned I'm going to be a complete prick and keep a lot of the car for spares for myself (unless any of you are people who've helped me out in the past....you know who you are), so don't feel offended if I say I'm hanging on to something. But the fact I could retain a decent spares source for BAH was instrumental in the decision to break the car. If I didn't have BAH I might have started on a mission to re-shell or even repair this one, but as most have already pointed out it's too far gone really.

Gearknob's available, I have a spare of that already. It's got some of the typical fractures in it, but hasn't actually cracked open or anything.
I think Sir Chris of Doc wants the gearbox, so if he grabs that he can take the knob by the hand and place it in yours. Set?

What's the panel around the fuel filler like? I've just poked mine, and wished I hadn't :(

Not too sure....I don't think it's looking clever, but will check. I know the filler's not!

The wheels aren't mint, but they're pretty good. Got P6000's on one end though, which I'd count as a negative

And I could do with the rear bumper and the piece of trim above the rubbing strip on the nearside rear...
